Welcome to first grade at

Huntsville Elementary School

First grade is an exciting year! There are many skills and concepts that your child will master this year. During first grade, your child will learn how to read, write stories, add, subtract, and so much more.

Ways to help your child to succeed

·        Practice reading and spelling daily

·       Check take-home folder each night

·        Read your child’s library books together

·        Discuss items missed on graded work with child

·        Make sure your child brings backpack, folder, reading  book, etc. each day

Accelerated Reader

      Students begin learning to use the Accelerated Reader program in first grade.  You may begin to see ribbons and rewards for reading accomplishments. Please celebrate with your child when they meet a goal or earn a new point ribbon.

Attendance

    Attendance is mandatory for your child to succeed.  Each day that your child misses, he/she will miss valuable instruction and practice activities that can not be made up.

* If your child arrives at school after 8:00.  Please stop by the office to sign in

* If you need to pick your child up before 2:45, you need to stop by the office to sign him/her out.  The office will call to the room for your child.

Change of Transportation

         If your child needs to change afternoon transportation, please send a note explaining which bus/or with whom they will be riding.  We cannot rely on your child to verbally give us this information. If no note is sent, your child will be sent by their regular transportation
