1st Grade

"Children are made readers on the laps of their parents."

— Emilie Buchwald

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to first grade!

This is a very special year in your child's school career! First grade is a time to experience important transitions and acquire new skills. During the year, your child will learn how to read, write stories, add, subtract, and so much more. I hope to instill a love of learning that will last throughout your child's years of schooling!

Ways to help your child succeed in 1st grade:

        Smile  Practice reading EVERY day.

Smile  Go over spelling words daily.

Smile  Read library books and encourage your child to take A.R. tests.

Smile  Visit the Huntsville Public Library.  They have lots of books that are testable and they are labeled!

Smile Check your child’s Take Home Folder daily for graded work, homework, spelling lists, calendar, etc.
